The TOFSCAN neuromuscular transmission monitor: cutting-edge technology for controlled anaesthesia
The TOFSCAN from IDMED is a latest-generation neuromuscular monitoring device designed to ensure objective, reliable and continuous assessment of the effect of curarising agents administered to patients. Thanks to its three-dimensional acceleromyography technology, this monitor accurately detects muscle movements induced by controlled electrical stimulation, allowing the evolution of neuromuscular block to be monitored throughout surgery or during a stay in intensive care.
Mainly used to monitor the activity of the thumb adductor muscle, TOFSCAN can also be used to monitor the frontal muscle (via the "eyebrow" sensor) or the big toe (via the "foot" sensor), depending on clinical needs. It is particularly useful in situations where visual monitoring of the patient is difficult or impossible. Thanks to ergonomic sensors that are perfectly adapted to each location, it ensures optimal and reproducible positioning, guaranteeing reliable measurement.
Equipped with an intuitive colour screen and a central selection wheel, TOFSCAN offers quick access to different stimulation modes: TOF, DBS, PTC, Tetanus, Twitch or ATP (automatic mode combining TOF and PTC). The device provides accurate measurements of the T4/T1 and T4/Tref ratios , as well as a graphical representation of muscle contractions. The AUTO TOF mode allows for automated stimulation sequences, freeing up time for medical staff while ensuring constant monitoring.
Operating on a rechargeable battery, the TOFSCAN provides exceptional autonomy of approximately one month (with 10 TOF stimulations per day in ECO mode). It can also be mains powered, with a smooth transition between the two power modes. Its compact and lightweight design (less than 320 g with cable and electrodes) makes it easy to transport and integrate into the most confined operating environments.
The TOFSCAN is intended exclusively for healthcare professionals trained in its use. It meets the most stringent standards for safety, electromagnetic immunity and biological compatibility, in accordance with European requirements (CE 0459 – LNE/G-MED).
By optimising the dosage of anaesthetic agents and preventing post-operative residual blockages, TOFSCAN contributes to safer, more personalised and more comfortable anaesthetic care for the patient. It is an essential tool in modern anaesthetic practice.
