The Stratus OCT-3000 is a fully computerized instrument for acquiring and analyzing cross-sectional tomograms of ocular tissue. This innovative medical technology provides non-invasive imaging of intraocular structures for diagnosing and monitoring various retinal diseases. The system generates cross-sectional retina images and can measure the thickness of different anatomical layers. Representing a significant advancement in ophthalmic diagnostics, it combines precision imaging and detailed analysis for optimal management of ocular conditions.

Description

Stratus OCT Model 3000: Advanced Ocular Imaging System for Precise Diagnostics and Long-Term Disease Monitoring

The Stratus OCT Model 3000 is a fully computerized instrument designed for acquiring and analyzing cross-sectional tomograms of ocular tissue. Representing a new frontier in medical diagnostics, this technology enables non-invasive imaging of intraocular structures, facilitating the diagnosis and monitoring of various retinal diseases. The system produces cross-sectional images of the retina, along with the capability to measure the thickness of retinal anatomical layers.

These high-depth-resolution cross-sectional images of the retina are generated through non-invasive, non-contact, low-coherence interferometry. The scanning process occurs in the horizontal (X-coordinate) and vertical (Y-coordinate) planes, as well as the axial (Z-coordinate) plane. These images are invaluable for identifying, monitoring, and quantitatively assessing macular and retinal diseases.

The Stratus OCT table houses the patient module, computer, flat-screen LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse, and printer. It features a motorized power table for adjusting the tabletop height according to each patient's needs. The table lift mechanism has specific power requirements (100 volts, 120 volts, or 230 volts AC), and it includes an up/down switch for positioning.

The patient module provides optical paths for observation, fixation light, illumination, and a super-luminescent diode (SLD) path for signal source and light collection. Galvanometric mirrors create a two-dimensional, cross-sectional scan of the fundus. The optical coherence tomographer measures optical reflectivity to obtain cross-sectional tomograms of the retina.

The computer contains an Intel PIII 850MHz processor, a 3.5-inch floppy drive, a 40-gigabyte hard disk drive, a 4.7-gigabyte DVD-RAM drive, and 256 megabytes of RAM. It includes an AC isolation transformer and a Surge Limit/Voltage Selection PCB for selecting the input voltage. Tomograms are stored on disk, and the system features a sophisticated patient database management system for long-term monitoring.

The 15-inch LCD color monitor offers superior display performance with a resolution of up to 1024 x 768. It incorporates power-saving capabilities and emits no X-ray radiation. The monitor allows simultaneous display of live data acquisition and recorded video of each Stratus OCT scan location and pattern.

The Carl Zeiss Meditec Optical Coherence Tomographer measures optical reflectivity to obtain cross-sectional tomograms of the retina. The time-of-flight delay of light back-scattered from different layers of the retina is determined using interferometry. The system uses a low-coherence, super-luminescent diode (SLD) as the light source for interferometry.

Tomograms are stored on disk and can be printed for documentation purposes. The system allows the operator to select image-processing routines for enhancement, and processed images can be saved along with raw data. A sophisticated data collection and storage system enable monitoring and analysis of the patient's condition over time.

In conclusion, the Stratus OCT Model 3000 represents a significant advancement in ophthalmic diagnostics, providing cutting-edge technology for non-invasive retinal imaging and efficient patient data management for long-term disease monitoring.
