Specac's Omni-Cell™: a universal and modular solution for spectroscopic analysis of liquids
Specac's Omni-Cell™ is a highly adaptable transmission cell specially designed to meet the varied requirements of spectroscopy laboratories working with liquid, paste or slurry samples. Thanks to its modular design and compatibility with a wide range of optical window materials, the Omni-Cell™ offers exceptional analytical flexibility, from ultraviolet (UV) tofar infrared (Far-IR) and terahertz (THz), including mid and near IR.
The cell is available in three distinct configurations to suit user requirements: the demountable cell with rectangular or circular windows, the sealed cell with fixed window, and the mull cell for solid samples mixed with a grinding agent such as Nujol. The choice between these variants depends on the type of sample and the desired frequency of path length changes. The demountable cell, for example, is particularly useful when frequent pathlength adjustments are required, while the sealed cell ensures optimum stability for repetitive measurements.
The Omni-Cell™ is designed to be mounted on a standard 3" x 2" plate with integrated filling ports and a simple mounting system. This universal design ensures compatibility with most spectrometers on the market. Windows are available in a variety of materials – NaCl, KBr, CaF₂, BaF₂, ZnSe, KRS-5, IR silica, AgBr, polyethylene – each with a defined spectral range and specific refractive index, allowing optimisation for the type of analysis and chemical compatibility with the sample.
Path lengths range from 0.006 mm (Mylar) to 1.0 mm (PTFE), allowing adaptation to the concentration of the analyte. The interchangeable spacer assembly allows for precise adjustment without changing the entire system. For sealed cells, a proprietary stainless steel spacer sealing technology ensures perfect sealing and measurement reproducibility.
In addition to its robustness and flexibility of use, the Omni-Cell™ offers laboratories a durable, accurate and economical solution for infrared and UV/Vis analysis of liquids and semi-solid substances.
