Plum A+ sets – Intelligent volumetric infusion system for safe and versatile care
The Plum A+ is an infusion device developed by Pfizer (formerly Hospira), specifically designed to meet the dynamic needs of hospitals and other medical environments. This system is based on cassette technology, ensuring optimal fluid administration accuracy while simplifying handling for healthcare professionals. Thanks to its dual-line design (two input ports, one output port), it supports standard, piggyback, and concurrent mode infusions, enabling efficient management of complex treatments.
The Plum A+ is capable of administering parenteral, enteral or epidural fluids from various containers (bags, syringes or vials) and covers a wide range of flow rates from 0.1 mL/h to 999 mL/h. Treatment modes include single infusion, bolus dose, multi-step programming and patient weight-based dose calculation, ensuring advanced therapeutic customisation. In addition, titration and delayed start features enhance clinical flexibility.
One of the major advantages of the Plum A+ is its safety in use. It is equipped with upstream and downstream air detection sensors, an anti-free flow mechanism, and alarms for occlusion, low battery or technical failure. The system performs self-tests at each start-up to ensure proper operation. It also features a backlit LCD screen, a keypad lock system (code or switch), and an intuitive user interface that facilitates programming even in critical situations.
The Plum A+ is suitable for use in many departments: intensive care, oncology, paediatrics, neonatology, emergency rooms, operating theatres, dialysis, nutrition and home care. Its compatibility with LifeCare Plum infusion sets and needle-free protection systems (LifeShield®, CLAVE®) makes it an integrated, safe and economical solution for healthcare facilities.
In addition, the device operates both on mains power and on battery power with a usage time of up to six hours. The integration of serial communication ports allows connection to hospital information systems for centralised management of infusion data, and maintenance is facilitated by a modular design and materials that are resistant to standard disinfectants.
Versatile, reliable and secure, the Plum A+ embodies the technological evolution of hospital infusion devices, while meeting the performance and safety requirements of practitioners. Its adoption in healthcare facilities is a testament to its robustness and ability to improve everyday clinical practices.
