Description

Pneupac VR1® – Reliable and intuitive emergency ventilation

The Pneupac VR1® from Smiths Medical is a manual or automatic automatic resuscitator designed for use in any environment where respiratory emergencies may occur. Its simple, compact design, portability and ability to operate independently of a power supply make it an indispensable device for rapid response, whether in a hospital setting, during medical transport, on an industrial site or in a remote area.

The VR1 is designed for absolute ease of use. With a single rotary knob, the caregiver can simultaneously adjust the tidal volume and respiratory rate independently, according to the patient's needs. This control includes a notch mark at the recommended position for adults (600 ml at 12 bpm), facilitating rapid start-up even under stressful conditions.

The VR1 can operate in automatic mode, delivering predefined cyclic ventilation, or in manual mode, via a push-button or omnidirectional lever control, allowing ventilation to be finely adjusted to the specific needs of the patient, particularly during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This system is complemented by a demand breathing device that detects the patient's spontaneous breathing efforts, allowing optimal synchronisation of ventilation with the natural breathing cycle, ensuring greater comfort and efficiency.

The unit is fully oxygen-powered, eliminating any dependence on an electrical power source. This is particularly useful in mobile intensive care environments, emergency vehicles or off-grid emergency situations.

In terms of safety, the VR1 has a pressure relief system set at 40 cmH₂O (with an optional version at 60 cmH₂O) coupled with a pneumatic alarm, thus ensuring the prevention of lung overpressure. Its MRI compatibility allows unrestricted use in magnetic resonance imaging environments, offering maximum flexibility in hospital settings.

Its lightweight design (420 g), ergonomic shape and easy-to-clean components, including the inlet tube and removable patient valve, enhance its practicality. In addition, linked manual controls allow for effective use in synergy with chest compressions during resuscitation manoeuvres.

The Pneupac VR1® is a robust, intuitive and effective emergency ventilation solution that integrates all the essential features to respond quickly to critical respiratory failure situations, while offering flexibility of use and a high level of safety for both patients and medical staff.
