Bio-Rad PowerPac HV: The high-voltage power supply designed for your most demanding electrophoresis applications
The Bio-Rad PowerPac HV high-voltage power supply is a powerful and ultra-precise solution for all laboratories working on electrophoresis applications requiring high voltages, strict parameter control and maximum safety. Designed specifically to meet the needs of molecular biology research, it is particularly suited to advanced techniques such as isoelectric focusing (IEF), SDS-PAGE and DNA sequencing. Thanks to its performance and robustness, it is the tool of choice in demanding laboratory environments.
With an output capacity of up to 5000 volts, the PowerPac HV offers fully programmable control of voltage, current or power. It operates on a constant parameter system with automatic switching: if a parameter becomes limiting during an experiment (e.g. if the programmed voltage is reached but the current does not follow), the device automatically switches to the limiting parameter to continue the run, thus ensuring the continuity and reliability of the experiment. This intelligent mechanism allows continuous adaptation to electrophoresis conditions without manual intervention.
Its user interface has been designed for clear and efficient navigation. The yellow-green backlit LCD screen continuously displays essential values: voltage, current, power, elapsed time, current stage, etc. Programmes can be run in manual mode, or up to 9 methods can be stored, each comprising 9 stages. Each method is fully editable, and it is even possible to modify certain parameters during a pause in a run to adapt to real-time requirements.
The temperature control function, combined with a probe (optional), keeps electrophoreses within a stable temperature range of 30 to 90°C, which is essential for certain sensitive applications such as sequencing or SSCP analyses. The PowerPac HV then automatically adjusts the power output to maintain the target temperature, ensuring rigorous control of experimental conditions.
Bio-Rad has also made a point of integrating safety features: short-circuit detection, no load detection, earth leakage detection, overheating detection and sudden resistance change detection. In the event of a power failure, the device can be configured to automatically resume the experiment once power is restored, thus avoiding compromising a long or delicate experiment.
The PowerPac HV also stands out for its connectivity. Thanks to an infrared (IRDA) port, it allows methods or run data to be transferred to a PC or personal digital assistant (PDA) via the PowerPac Remote software (optional). This facilitates data management, method reproducibility and result archiving.
Compact, stackable and quiet, it fits easily into any laboratory environment while complying with international safety standards EN 61010. It is the ideal equipment for researchers looking for a reliable, high-performance and intuitive device for their high-voltage electrophoresis applications.
