PTC-200 Thermal Cycler: Precision Thermal Performance for PCR
The Bio-Rad PTC-200 DNA Engine® Thermal Cycler is a state-of-the-art instrument designed for demanding PCR applications. Thanks to engineering that combines biological expertise and technological innovation, this thermal cycler offers a reliable, flexible and high-performance solution for research and diagnostic laboratories (excluding human in vitro diagnostics).
Its architecture is based on a modular design that accommodates interchangeable Alpha™ blocks, allowing the use of different tube, microplate and slide formats. This flexibility is enhanced by the Hot Bonnet® heated lid, which eliminates the need for oil to seal samples while maintaining a constant temperature at the top of the tubes to prevent condensation.
The PTC-200 offers two temperature control modes: block control and calculated control. The latter allows precise regulation of sample temperature, taking into account the volume and type of container, thus optimising cycle speed and reliability. The embedded software, accessible via a 20x4 LCD screen, provides an intuitive interface for creating, editing and executing programmes, with a storage capacity of 400 protocols spread across 12 folders.
Compact design and extensive connectivity
Designed to fit easily into any laboratory environment, the PTC-200 features a compact structure with air inlets at the front, rear and bottom, and side outlets for optimal ventilation. It can be networked with up to 15 devices via RS-232, IEEE-488 and parallel ports, facilitating remote control and cycle documentation.
The control panel includes selection, confirmation, stop, pause and instant incubation buttons, as well as indicator lights showing the heating or cooling status of the blocks. The "Instant Incubate" mode allows incubation at a constant temperature between -5°C and 105°C, with or without a heated lid.
Safety, maintenance and compatibility
The PTC-200 incorporates several safety features: overheating protection, sensor fault warnings and Alpha™ block locking during operation. It complies with IEC61010-1 and EN61326 Class A standards and meets European Directives 73/23/EEC, 89/336/EEC and 93/68/EEC.
