The Rotor-Disc® Heat Sealer developed by Qiagen is an essential instrument for molecular biology laboratories utilizing the Rotor-Gene® Q system. Specifically designed to seal 72- or 100-well Rotor-Discs, this device uses a thermal sealing film in place of conventional caps. The result is a uniform, robust, tamper-proof seal that eliminates the risk of cross-contamination, ensuring the reliability of real-time PCR analyses.

Its operation is based on a precise heating mechanism, functioning at temperatures between 165°C and 182°C. The user inserts the Rotor-Disc into a dedicated loading block, then carefully positions the sealing film over the disc. The entire assembly is guided into the sealer using an integrated track system. Once the target temperature is reached, the sealing mechanism is activated with a simple press followed by a safety latch, ensuring even pressure across the disc surface.

The Rotor-Disc Heat Sealer offers two distinct sealing modes: a permanent seal, ideal for long-term storage or transport, and a peelable seal, allowing easy film removal post-analysis. This dual setting enables adaptation to various experimental protocols while maintaining high levels of reproducibility.

The device is equipped with safety features designed for intensive laboratory use. Indicator lights display operational status—whether powered on, ready for sealing, or actively in use. An audible alert notifies the user of improper disc placement or the completion of the sealing process. External surfaces can be decontaminated using a 0.1% diluted bleach solution and rinsed with PCR-grade water.
