RW 16 basic – The ideal agitator for standard laboratory applications
The RW 16 basic stirrer developed by IKA is a benchmark device in the field of low-viscosity fluid agitation. Designed for use in demanding laboratory environments, it combines reliability, ease of use and robustness. Designed for stirring volumes of up to 10 litres of water, it is ideal for research, quality control or production laboratories requiring constant, stable and safe equipment.
The RW 16 basic is equipped with a ball-bearing-mounted DC motor combined with a silent toothed belt drive. The entire drive unit is completely maintenance-free, allowing for prolonged use in continuous operation without risk of overheating or premature wear. Its housing, made of die-cast aluminium and thermoplastic, is designed to withstand liquid splashes while facilitating cleaning and maintenance.
The rotation speed is controlled by an ergonomic rotary knob on the front panel. This device allows for smooth and precise speed adjustment from 40 to 1,200 rpm under nominal load and up to 1,600 rpm when unloaded. This system ensures optimal adaptability to the different viscosities encountered during mixing processes. Manual speed adjustment also compensates for slight variations due to the viscosity of the liquid or the supply voltage.
The agitator can be securely mounted on a stand using a mounting arm and a cross sleeve. It is essential to use a holding system for the mixing vessel to ensure the stability of the entire unit. The chuck can hold all common stirring tools up to a diameter of 10 mm. In addition, the stirring shaft is designed as a hollow shaft, making it easy to insert and centre the rods.
The integrated safety system provides protection against overload and blockages. In the event of a fault, a safety circuit immediately cuts off the power supply to the motor via a relay, preventing further damage. To restart the device, simply press the main switch again. If the device does not restart, we recommend contacting technical support.
The device comes with a two-metre power cable, allowing it to be used under a hood or at height without the need for an extension cord. All these features make the RW 16 basic an ideal shaker for standard laboratory applications, combining simplicity, reliability and safety.
