GeneAmp® 5700: A Complete System for Real-Time PCR Detection
The GeneAmp® 5700 from Applied Biosystems is a fully integrated instrument designed to meet the demands of real-time quantitative PCR in molecular biology research. This all-in-one system combines several built-in components: an optical detection unit, a GeneAmp® 9600 thermal cycler, a dedicated electronics module, and a Windows NT-compatible computer, preconfigured for data processing.
The GeneAmp® 5700 is intended for use in laboratory environments that meet specific conditions for temperature (15–30 °C), humidity (≤ 80% RH), ventilation, and chemical safety. Designed to fit on compact benchtop spaces, it ensures reliable performance with a vertical configuration of its main modules, optimizing spatial efficiency.
The device requires a dedicated 2.0 kVA power supply with proper grounding and must be connected to four nearby power outlets. It is compatible with electrical standards across multiple regions (Europe, North America, Japan, Australia, etc.), with a voltage tolerance of ±10%.
The GeneAmp® 5700 uses specific PCR reagents provided in the installation kit, including SYBR Green and TaqMan DNA Template reagents, which must be stored at –20 °C. Due to the use of potentially hazardous chemicals, strict handling procedures must be followed according to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and the system should be operated in well-ventilated areas, such as under a fume hood.
Additional laboratory equipment not included with the system is required, such as PCR-compatible pipettes, 96-well plate consumables, and a data backup device.
Designed exclusively for research use only, the GeneAmp® 5700 is not intended for clinical diagnostic purposes. It offers a robust solution for quantitative PCR with fluorescence-based detection, delivering the precision and reproducibility expected in advanced scientific workflows.
