Thermo Scientific SL 40R refrigerated centrifuge: performance, safety and versatility
The Thermo Scientific SL 40R is a high-end refrigerated laboratory centrifuge designed to meet the rigorous requirements of clinical, biological, environmental and industrial applications. The SL 40R features a brushless induction motor, ensuring quiet, vibration-free and maintenance-free operation. This technology ensures rapid speed build-up, with a maximum capacity of 15,200 rpm, enabling a relative centrifugal force (RCF) of up to 25,314 xg depending on the rotor used. Thanks to its galvanised steel structure with reinforced shielding and stainless steel inner chamber, it offers exceptional durability and excellent protection against mechanical stress.
One of the SL 40R's strengths is its efficient refrigeration system, which allows temperature control from -10°C to +40°C. This temperature range allows for optimal storage of heat-sensitive samples, ensuring their stability throughout the centrifugation process. In standby mode, the chamber is maintained at the preset temperature, preventing any thermal shock when samples are inserted.
The centrifuge has an ergonomic and intuitive user interface. A membrane control panel allows direct entry of centrifugation parameters: speed, duration, RCF, temperature, acceleration and deceleration curves. Nine acceleration profiles and ten braking profiles are available to precisely match the characteristics of the samples. The digital display shows the speed or RCF in real time, with the option of changing the display mode at any time, even during a cycle.
The integrated AutoLock™ system simplifies tool-free rotor installation and ensures secure automatic locking. Electronic imbalance detection and lid locking prevent start-up if safety conditions are not met. A mechanical emergency unlocking device also allows samples to be retrieved in the event of a power failure, an essential feature for critical environments.
Thanks to its compatibility with a wide range of rotors (fixed angle, swing-out, aerosol-tight), the SL 40R can accommodate a wide variety of tubes, microplates, bottles and vials, adapting to the most diverse protocols. It is therefore ideal for plasma and serum separation, cell culture preparation and environmental analysis.
