Sofia 2 analyser – Performance and simplicity for point-of-care diagnostics
The Sofia 2 from QuidelOrtho is a fluorescence immunoassay device designed to provide healthcare professionals with a fast, reliable and easy-to-use diagnostic tool. It is part of the new generation of point-of-care analysers that combine high analytical performance with ease of integration into a variety of environments, from the doctor's office to the local laboratory.
The system is based on immunofluorescence technology that ensures excellent sensitivity and specificity, equivalent to the standards of molecular methods and viral cultures. This provides reliable results while avoiding subjective interpretations thanks to fully automated reading. The Sofia 2 thus eliminates the risk of human error associated with visual interpretation.
The device features an intuitive touchscreen and a graphical user interface that guides the operator through each step of the testing process. Two modes of use are available for greater flexibility: WALK AWAY mode, which allows the test cassette to be incubated directly in the device and the result to be obtained automatically at the end of the process, and READ NOW mode, which allows tests to be incubated externally and then analysed in sequence quickly.
With results available in 3 to 15 minutes, depending on the type of analysis, and a handling time of around one minute, the Sofia 2 enables an optimised workflow. Automatic recording of results in the internal memory ensures complete traceability of analyses, while the Virena platform enables secure, real-time transmission of results to centralised databases, facilitating dynamic epidemiological surveillance.
Thanks to its compact size, Sofia 2 fits easily into any clinical environment. It supports several rapid tests available in specific cartridges (such as Influenza A+B, RSV, Strep A+, SARS-CoV-2, Campylobacter, Lyme, etc.), some of which are authorised for emergency use in the United States.
Designed to meet the needs of professionals in terms of responsiveness, efficiency and quality control, Sofia 2 offers fast and informed patient care, particularly in the context of seasonal epidemics or health emergencies.
