SPU 2000: An Effective and Versatile Sample Preparation Tool
The Copley SPU 2000 is an effective device designed to simplify and optimise sample preparation procedures for inhaler testing. This device addresses a critical need in testing laboratories, where many tasks are repetitive but do not require full automation. The SPU 2000 is specifically designed to recover active drugs from the induction ports used on Andersen Cascade Impactor (ACI) and Next Generation Impactor (NGI) impactors, as well as from the NGI pre-separator. The SPU 2000 fixtures are equipped with customised brackets and use silicone rubber caps to secure and seal the equipment during operation. The device can accommodate two fixtures at a time, allowing multiple samples to be processed simultaneously.
One of the most notable features of the SPU 2000 is its compatibility with the Gentle Rocker, a device that creates a complete sample preparation system for the NGI. During initialisation, the SPU 2000 automatically adjusts the orientation of the two fixtures to the loading position before starting the rinsing process. This feature ensures that samples are prepared uniformly and reproducibly.
The SPU 2000 offers precise speed control, with an adjustment range between 20 and 60 rpm (± 1 rpm). This flexibility allows the user to adjust the mixing intensity and, consequently, the dissolution conditions applicable to the specific formulation being tested. In addition, the rinsing cycle time can be selected either in terms of revolutions of the fixture (0-9999) or in terms of time (up to 8 hours). This versatility allows the sample preparation process to be adapted to the specific requirements of each test.
The SPU 2000 is controlled by a membrane keypad connected to a 4-line , 20-character backlit LCD display . During processing, the display shows both the nominal time and the time remaining until the end of the cycle, as well as the selected speed. This information allows the user to monitor and adjust the process in real time, ensuring accurate and efficient sample preparation.
In terms of dimensions, the SPU 2000 measures 33 x 33 x 32 cm (W x D x H) when equipped with a single induction port attachment, and 65 x 31 x 35 cm (W x D x H) when equipped with a single pre-separator attachment. This compact design allows for easy integration into test laboratories, while providing sufficient processing capacity to meet user requirements.
