Olympus MB-156 Sterilisation Cap: A reliable solution for sterilising Olympus endoscopes
The MB-156 is an essential accessory in the reconditioning process for Olympus endoscopes, particularly those in the ENF-VH series used in otorhinolaryngology. This sterilisation cap has been specially designed to attach to the ventilation connector of the endoscope's light connector to ensure effective and safe sterilisation when using low-temperature methods such as STERRAD® or V-PRO® maX.
During gas-based sterilisation cycles, the air contained in the endoscope can expand under the effect of temperature and pressure. Without the MB-156, this expansion could cause mechanical damage, particularly to the bending section of the endoscope. By attaching the MB-156, any risk of breakage or malfunction is avoided, thus extending the service life of the equipment.
The MB-156 is manufactured to Olympus' strict quality standards and meets the requirements of ISO 17664:2017 for the processing of medical devices. It is compatible with several validated sterilisation methods, including:
- STERRAD® 100S/NX®/100NX®
- V-PRO® maX (flexible cycle)
- Ethylene oxide (ETO)gas
It is important to note that the MB-156 must not be immersed in cleaning or disinfecting solutions. It must be removed before any manual or automated cleaning steps (ETD, AER). Visual inspection before each use is recommended to check for scratches, cracks or debris.
In terms of durability, the MB-156 can withstand up to 100 hydrogen peroxide sterilisation cycles and 50 ETO gas cycles while retaining its functional properties. Beyond these limits, signs of degradation may appear, such as cracking or discolouration, indicating that it is time to replace it.
This cap is a non-repairable accessory, which means that in the event of damage or wear, it must be discarded and replaced immediately to ensure the safety of the patient and medical staff.
The MB-156 is a small component, but it plays a crucial role in the Olympus endoscope reconditioning chain. Its robust design, compatibility with modern sterilisation systems and ease of use make it an essential choice for healthcare facilities concerned with quality and safety.
