CareFusion Alaris PK: A Syringe Pump Tailored to Anesthesiologists' Needs
The Alaris PK is a high-performance syringe pump specifically designed for the administration of anesthetics and infusion agents in TIVA (Total Intravenous Anesthesia) and TCI (Target Controlled Infusion) modes. It supports multiple pharmacokinetic models, providing anesthesiologists with increased flexibility based on the patient's physiological characteristics.
With its user-friendly interface, the Alaris PK simplifies infusion programming and reduces the risk of medication errors. Its unique main screen displays all essential parameters in real-time, minimizing the need to navigate through multiple menus. This feature ensures quick setup and smooth management of infusions, even in emergency situations.
One of the strengths of this pump is its ability to integrate with hospital systems via the Alaris Gateway Workstation. This compatibility allows the pump to connect with Patient Data Management Systems (PDMS) and existing hospital infrastructures, ensuring optimal traceability and monitoring of administered treatments.
The Alaris PK operates with syringes ranging from 5 ml to 50 ml, offering an extended range of infusion rates from 0.1 to 1200 ml/h, depending on the syringe size used. Its volumetric precision of ±2% ensures reliable drug administration, minimizing risks associated with overdosing or underdosing.
The pump's autonomy, thanks to its rechargeable NiMH battery, lasts approximately six hours at an infusion rate of 5 ml/h. Its recharge time is about 2.5 hours to reach 90% charge, allowing continuous use even when the patient is mobile.
In terms of safety, the pump incorporates a comprehensive alarm system that alerts in cases of excessive pressure, end of infusion, low battery, power failure, or issues with the syringe clamp. It also offers customizable parameters, including dose limits and patient weight, for tailored administration.
The TIVA and TCI modes of the Alaris PK allow for infusion adjustments based on the pharmacokinetic characteristics of the molecules used. Among the supported models are Propofol Marsh, Schnider, Kataria, Paedfusor, Remifentanil Minto, Sufentanil Gepts, and Alfentanil Maitre, providing precise management of plasma concentrations and site effects.
The syringe pump is compatible with a wide range of infusion accessories and devices, including extension lines, Y-connectors, and SmartSite® valves. This extensive compatibility facilitates its integration into various anesthetic protocols, ensuring optimal patient care.
