TGA/SDTA851e thermogravimetric analyser

The TGA/SDTA851e from Mettler Toledo is a high-precision measuring module for simultaneous thermogravimetric and thermal analysis. Capable of detecting mass changes down to 0.1 µg on samples weighing up to 5 g, it covers a wide temperature range from ambient temperature to 1600 °C. It is ideal for characterising materials in research, production and quality control, particularly in the chemical, pharmaceutical, mineral and polymer industries.

Description

Mettler Toledo TGA/SDTA851e thermogravimetric and thermal analyser: precision and reliability for thermal analysis

The TGA/SDTA851e from Mettler Toledo is designed to meet the demanding requirements of thermal analysis, combining thermogravimetry (TGA) and simple differential thermal analysis (SDTA™) in a single instrument. This device measures changes in the mass of materials as a function of temperature with remarkable accuracy, providing reliable data even on very small or large samples.

Thanks to its parallel-guided weighing system, measurement accuracy is independent of the sample position. The measurement environment can be precisely defined using a sealed cell that allows the use of pure or reactive gases, thus avoiding any external influence on the results. The TGA/SDTA851e allows simultaneous observation of physical transitions on the SDTA™ curve, greatly facilitating the interpretation of thermal events.

The module offers three types of furnaces, suitable for temperatures up to 1100 °C or 1600 °C, and supports sample volumes from 100 µl to 900 µl. Thermal insulation is provided by a water cooling system, ensuring optimum measurement stability. Continuous resolution without range switching is a considerable advantage, allowing mass changes as small as 0.1 µg to be detected with noise levels below 1 pg.

The modular design of the TGA/SDTA851e allows it to be adapted to the changing needs of laboratories. The device can be coupled with a mass spectrometer (MS), an FTIR spectrometer or a gas chromatograph (GC) to analyse the gaseous products released during thermal reactions. Automation is also possible thanks to the TS0801RO sample robot, which can process up to 34 samples completely autonomously.

The integrated software interface allows experiments to be defined, executed and analysed directly from a computer, with comprehensive documentation of the results. This system also offers analysis options such as kinetic data processing or the application of complex mathematical functions for more in-depth interpretations.

Reliable, robust and built to last, the TGA/SDTA851e is an essential tool for any laboratory wishing to perform accurate thermal and thermogravimetric analyses while maintaining a high level of control over experimental conditions.
