Evolution 600 – High-level optical performance for research environments
The Evolution 600 from Thermo Fisher Scientific stands out as a benchmark UV-Vis spectrophotometer, designed to meet the growing demands of specialised laboratories. Unlike its counterpart, the Evolution 300 model, the 600 incorporates a dual light source combining a deuterium lamp and a halogen lamp, ensuring increased stability in the detection of the slightest variations in absorbance. This technical choice guarantees optimal performance across the entire spectrum, including in the deep ultraviolet range.
Its high-sensitivity photomultiplier detector, particularly effective for demanding samples, makes this model an essential ally in materials science, where measurement accuracy is paramount. Thanks to its robust design with a cast aluminium chassis and quartz-coated optics, the device ensures long-term reliability while facilitating cleaning operations without risk of damage to sensitive components.
The optical system of the Evolution 600 is based on a research-grade Ebert monochromator equipped with a holographic grating with 1200 lines per mm blazed at 240 nm. This configuration guarantees excellent energy efficiency and low stray light, which is essential for reproducible analyses.
For users, the device offers complete modularity: it can be used as a stand-alone version (Local Control), with a PC, or in a hybrid configuration. The large colour screen and touchpad make navigation easy, while the VISIONpro™ software and its modules (VISIONlife™, VISIONsecurity™) enable complex measurements, ensure 21 CFR Part 11 compliance, and manage kinetic experiments and automated calculations (UVcalc).
The sample compartment is designed to accommodate interchangeable bases, with a wide beam separation and extensive compatibility with smart accessories. These accessories are automatically detected by the system, saving significant time and increasing traceability through serial number identification.
The Evolution 600 is also compatible with high-precision accessories such as diffuse or specular VN reflectance modules, solid sample holders and integrated Peltier thermal control systems, enabling temperature-controlled measurements up to 110°C, which are essential for biochemical applications such as DNA thermal denaturation or enzyme kinetics.
The Evolution 600 combines optical excellence, operational flexibility and intelligent software to deliver reliable results in critical areas such as regulated pharmaceuticals, molecular biochemistry and materials science, while adapting to the evolving requirements of modern laboratories.
