Description

Varioskan LUX: a high-performance microplate reader for maximum flexibility in the laboratory

The Varioskan™ LUX is a multimode microplate reader designed to meet the diverse requirements of modern scientific research. Featuring a modular architecture, it combines several detection technologies, enabling researchers to perform precise measurements of fluorescence, absorbance, luminescence, time-resolved fluorescence (TRF) and AlphaScreen technology using a single platform. This versatility makes it an essential tool in the fields of cell biology, enzyme studies, pharmacology and high-throughput screening.

This system relies on the use of filters or monochromators for wavelength selection, depending on the detection technology chosen. Absorbance and fluorescence measurements use monochromators, offering unprecedented spectral flexibility, while AlphaScreen and TRF technologies use excitation and emission filters, ensuring high sensitivity in specific applications.

The Varioskan LUX supports plates ranging from 6 to 1536 wells, ensuring great flexibility in experiment formats. It is compatible with point spectral, kinetic and spectral scanning measurements. Measurements can be taken from the top or bottom of the well depending on the technology, which is particularly useful for cell studies. Controlled incubation up to 45°C and integrated orbital shaking allow optimal control of culture or reaction conditions.

Another major advantage of the Varioskan LUX is the option of integrating up to two dispensers for automated addition of reagents. This reduces human error and increases the efficiency of experimental protocols. In addition, the optional gas module allows precise control of the CO₂ and O₂ atmosphere in the measuring chamber, which is essential for experiments on living cells. These options enhance the automation and standardisation of analyses while reducing inter-experimental variability.

The reader is controlled via SkanIt™ software, an intuitive interface that facilitates protocol configuration, data management and result analysis. SkanIt offers full compatibility with different plate formats and includes automatic verification of compatibility between software templates and physical adapters.

The ergonomic design of the Varioskan LUX includes an easily accessible plate drawer system and rear connectors for power, USB and gases. Maintenance is made easy thanks to clear maintenance guides and a modular structure that allows for upgrades as laboratory needs evolve. Its robustness, precision and scalability make the Varioskan LUX a durable ally for demanding research laboratories.
