The Heidelberg Engineering Retina HRT 2 tomograph is an optical tomograph designed for topographic analysis of the optic nerve head, offering precise and rapid results for clinical monitoring.

Description

The HRT 2 - Analysis of the Optic Nerve Head

Specifically designed for topographic analysis of the optic nerve head, the HRT 2 is a scanning laser tomograph that produces 3D images and aims to provide an automated and seamless experience. Ease of use is emphasized, with a single button to initiate the entire process of data acquisition and analysis. Image acquisition parameters are automatically set, including a resolution of 10 µm per pixel and a 15-degree field of view. Focus, scanning depth, and sensitivity are adjusted automatically during acquisition. An internal fixation target ensures precise centering of the optic nerve head in the image.

After acquisition, examination results are presented in a straightforward manner, focusing primarily on classification and progression analysis. Despite its speed (a few minutes for the complete examination), the HRT 2 provides essential information for clinical monitoring. The device is compact, lightweight, and even portable, capable of being used with a laptop computer. Data is compatible with that of the previous HRT and operates under Heidelberg Engineering's Windows software platform, the Heidelberg Eye Explorer.

Furthermore, the HRT 2 incorporates confocal laser microscopy technology that combines the laser scanning technology of the HRT II with the Rostock Cornea Module. This technology enables sharp and detailed images of the cornea, with the ability to visualize cellular structures at different layers from the epithelium to the endothelium. This allows for the evaluation of corneal health, postoperative complications, and general corneal pathology, while also providing a view of the peripheral areas of the cornea and conjunctiva.
