Trans-Blot SD Electrophoretic Transfer System - Perfect Condition

Bio-Rad's Trans-Blot® SD (ref. 170-3940) is a semi-dry electrophoretic transfer cell designed for fast and efficient transfer of proteins, DNA and RNA from gels to membranes. Compact, easy to assemble and use, it combines platinum-coated titanium electrodes and stainless steel electrodes to ensure optimal conductivity without a stray ground. Compatible with many types of membranes, this system is ideal for Western blotting, Southern blotting and Northern blotting. Robust and accurate, it is the tool of choice in molecular biology and biochemistry laboratories.

Description

Trans-Blot SD: high-performance semi-dry transfer system for electrophoretic blotting

Bio-Rad's Trans-Blot SD Semi-Dry Electrophoretic Transfer Cell is a sophisticated device designed to provide fast, efficient and reproducible electrophoretic transfer of macromolecules such as proteins, DNA and RNA from polyacrylamide or agarose gels to transfer membranes. This semi-dry technology relies on a stack of buffer-soaked filter paper and membranes between two conductive electrode plates, all in an optimised horizontal configuration . The system eliminates the large volumes of buffer required by wet transfer cells while providing a high, uniform electric field that promotes rapid and targeted migration of analytes.

The Trans-Blot SD features a robust, chemically resistant moulded polycarbonate housing designed to ensure a long service life even in a demanding laboratory environment. The platinum-coated titanium anode provides excellent conductivity without releasing contaminants, while the stainless steel cathode completes the transfer circuit with stability. Its size allows it to accommodate gels up to 25 x 18.5 cm, making it compatible with most standard gel formats.

Its operation is optimised for voltages up to 25 volts, with specific power supply units such as the Bio-Rad Model 200/2.0 recommended for use. Its simple assembly and disassembly saves considerable time in routine experiments, particularly in Western blot protocols. In addition, the device supports specific transfer protocols for nucleic acids, facilitating Southern or Northern blot applications in a matter of minutes with dedicated accessories.

Transfer efficiency is enhanced by the use of suitable membranes such as PVDF (Immun-Blot or Sequi-Blot), Zeta-Probe GT or nitrocellulose membranes with different porosities. The device comes with a wide range of compatible accessories, including pre-cut transfer filter papers and immunological detection kits, ensuring seamless integration into existing workflows.

In terms of safety and reliability, Bio-Rad has designed the Trans-Blot SD in accordance with IEC 1010-1 standards, ensuring safe use and compliance with research laboratory requirements. This system is particularly suitable for users who require precise control of transfer parameters, high reproducibility and easy integration into sensitive immunological detection protocols.
