MI 24 by Maico: Accurate and Reliable Tympanometry and Hearing Screening
The MI 24 is a high-end device designed for tympanometry and hearing disorder screening. This automatic instrument is designed to provide impedance test results, as well as to perform multi-frequency and multi-level tympanic reflex screenings. It is particularly suited for hearing professionals seeking an accurate and quick solution to evaluate middle ear function and response to acoustic reflexes. With its intuitive interface, the MI 24 allows for automated and precise tympanometric and reflex testing.
The primary goal of tympanometry is to measure the mobility (compliance) of the middle ear and the pressure within the middle ear system. During the examination, a low-frequency sound (226 Hz) is presented to the ear canal using a manual probe, allowing for the measurement of the eardrum's response to pressure variations. The MI 24 can perform tympanometry tests with a pressure range from +200 to -400 daPa and a compliance range of 0.1 to 6.0 ml. The results are displayed on a graphical LCD screen, allowing for easy interpretation of tympanograms and reflex curves.
The MI 24 also offers an acoustic reflex screening function, measuring the ear’s response to sounds at various frequencies (500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz) and intensity levels. It uses both ipsilateral (same side) and contralateral (opposite side) testing to provide a comprehensive analysis of hearing function. With intensity levels ranging from 70 to 110 dBHL, the MI 24 ensures high accuracy in measuring the reflex response based on frequency and stimulus level.
Test results are presented in the form of curves and graphs on the LCD screen, with the option for printing via an integrated thermal printer. The printing time is quick, ranging from 4 to 12 seconds, depending on the type of test performed. The thermal printer uses a 110 mm wide paper roll, providing about 350 prints per roll. The MI 24 is designed to offer a smooth user experience, with results stored for both ears, simplifying data management.
The device should be used in a quiet environment and at an ambient temperature of 15°C to 35°C. It is recommended to leave the MI 24 on for about 10 minutes before the first measurement to ensure accurate results. The MI 24 offers flexible storage conditions, with a storage temperature range of +5°C to +50°C.
