Zebra ZD421 printer: A labelling solution for demanding environments
The Zebra ZD421 printer embodies a new generation of desktop printing solutions designed to meet the growing demands of professional environments for flexibility, performance and connectivity. Available in three versions – thermal transfer, direct thermal and cartridge – the ZD421 is designed to easily adapt to a variety of use cases, from retail to healthcare, logistics and light manufacturing. Its compact, rugged design, combined with battery power options, makes it a mobile printer that is perfectly suited to flexible workstations.
With a standard print resolution of 203 dpi and an optional 300 dpi resolution, the ZD421 produces labels, tickets and receipts of outstanding quality, even for the smallest barcodes or characters. With a print speed of up to 6 inches per second, it combines speed and efficiency to ensure uninterrupted workflow. Its OpenACCESS™ design simplifies consumable loading, making handling intuitive and fast.
The ZD421 includes a wide range of connectivity options: USB 2.0, USB host, Bluetooth Low Energy for mobile pairing, as well as field-installable modules for Ethernet, RS-232, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Apple MFi-certified Bluetooth 4.1. This versatility allows for easy integration into any IT system or connected environment, ensuring fast deployment and broad compatibility with existing applications.
At the heart of its software performance is the Zebra Print DNA ecosystem, which offers a comprehensive suite of configuration, management and development tools. Compatibility with ZPL II, EPL2 and ZBI (Zebra Basic Interpreter 2.0) languages facilitates integration into existing or customised print workflows. The ZD421 also complies with Unicode standards, enabling multilingual printing for international environments.
In terms of media, the ZD421 accepts widths of up to 4.65 inches depending on the model and supports a wide range of media types, including pre-cut labels, continuous rolls, thermal paper, wristbands, tickets and hospital labels. Its ability to handle 5-inch outer diameter rolls and accordion-fold formats improves autonomy between refills.
Also designed for hospital environments, the Healthcare version of the ZD421 includes a white, disinfectant-resistant casing, easy-to-clean plastics and an IEC 60601-1-compliant power supply. It is therefore perfectly suited for use in sterile environments.
Reliable, scalable and easy to maintain, the ZD421 offers a modular architecture that allows the addition of options such as a cutter, a sensor-based peel-off system or mandrel adapters. Maintenance is simplified by easy access to critical components and clear documentation.
