TDK
Country: Japan

Founded in December 1935 by Kenzo Saito in Tokyo, TDK (an acronym for Tokyo Denki Kagaku) was established to commercialise ferrite, an innovative magnetic material invented at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Over the decades, the company has distinguished itself in the manufacture of audio cassettes — including the first Japanese compact cassette launched in 1966 — which transformed the way music was shared and listened to. At the same time, TDK developed miniaturised technologies such as multilayer capacitors, which are essential for the evolution of portable electronic devices.

Today, TDK is a leading multinational electronics company specialising in the manufacture of components such as sensors, capacitors, ferrites and power supplies. It operates globally through more than 250 sites in around 30 countries and employs more than 100,000 people, the vast majority of whom are based outside Japan. True to its slogan, "Contributing to culture and industry through creativity," the company continues to promote technological innovation in strategic areas such as high-density batteries, automotive sensors, and solutions for energy and digital infrastructure.
