GE Cardiocap™/5 – A versatile and compact patient monitor for anaesthesia and critical care
The Cardiocap™/5 from GE HealthCare (formerly Datex-Ohmeda) is a compact multi-parameter monitor specifically designed to meet the demands of anaesthesia and intensive care monitoring. Combining performance, reliability and ease of use, it monitors the vital signs of adult and paediatric patients weighing at least 5 kg, whether in the operating theatre, critical care unit or during inter-hospital transport.
This modular device is available in two main configurations:
- F-MX: haemodynamic model for basic monitoring (ECG, SpO₂, NIBP, temperature, impedance respiration ).
- F-MXG: model incorporating respiratory gas and anaesthetic agent measurement, ideal for operating theatres.
Each model can be enhanced with factory-integrated options, such as:
- N-XP: two invasive pressure channels and second temperature,
- N-XOSAT / N-XNSAT: enhanced GE pulse oximetry or Nellcor® compatible,
- N-XCAiO: complete anaesthetic gas analysis (CO₂, O₂, N₂O) with automatic identification of volatile agents (sevoflurane, isoflurane, desflurane, etc.),
- N-XV: patient spirometry,
- N-XNMT: neuromuscular transmission monitoring (TOF, DBS, PTC),
- N-XREC: integrated thermal recorder for printing curves and trends.
With its 10.4-inch colour LCD screen , the Cardiocap/5 provides a clear and detailed view of physiological data and tracings. It can display multiple curves simultaneously, with configurable audible and visual alarms for optimal responsiveness. The device is equipped with direct access keys and an intuitive ComWheel, making it easy to navigate through the menus even when wearing surgical gloves.
This monitor is designed for continuous use: it operates on mains power but also has an internal backup lead-acid battery (12V, autonomy ≥15 minutes) that recharges automatically. This feature is essential to ensure continuity of care during patient transfers.
Connectivity is provided via RJ45 Ethernet ports (hospital network), analogue outputs (for defibrillator synchronisation, ECG signal, etc.) and PCMCIA slots for recording or importing configurations. The Cardiocap/5 is compatible with GE's S/5 network, facilitating the integration of patient data into hospital information systems.
The device complies with medical standards IEC 60601-1 (electrical safety) and IPX1 (water protection) and is CE marked. It is designed to be robust, easy to maintain and upgradeable. Thanks to the high compatibility of its sensors and accessories, it can be easily integrated into existing equipment.
The GE Cardiocap™/5 is a reliable, flexible patient monitor suitable for a wide range of clinical applications. It is an ideal solution for healthcare facilities looking for versatile, ergonomic and proven equipment for perioperative and critical care monitoring.
