Biosan's CVP-2: a versatile instrument for PCR preparation
The Biosan CVP-2 is a device that combines several essential functions for the preparation of samples for PCR analysis in a single instrument. Designed to meet the strict requirements of molecular biology laboratories, it combines the capabilities of a centrifuge, a vortex mixer, a combined centrifuge/vortex mixer and an SMS cycler, enabling the Spin–Mix–Spin algorithm to be performed automatically. This unique combination greatly simplifies the handling steps and reduces the risk of errors associated with PCR plate preparation.
The operating principle is based on the SMS (Spin–Mix–Spin) algorithm developed and registered by Biosan. This consists of an initial centrifugation to collect the reagents at the bottom of the wells, followed by homogeneous mixing using the vortex, and then a second centrifugation that returns the samples from the walls and lid to the bottom of the wells. This reproducible and programmable sequence ensures standardised and reliable sample preparation.

One of the main advantages of the CVP-2 is its ability to process two PCR plates simultaneously. This dual operation reduces handling time and increases laboratory productivity.
